Branham and YTA Host Luncheon Event to Discuss the Risks and Opportunities of Green IT
- Branham Group Inc., a leading global ICT industry analyst and strategic marketing consultancy, recently organized a Green IT luncheon event in conjunction with the York Technology Association (YTA) in Richmond Hill, Ontario on Sep 16.
The event was a timely panel discussion of Green IT leaders facilitated by Wayne Gudbranson, President and CEO of the Branham Group. The panel members represented companies offering unique solutions in the Green IT space, and included Alfred Hambsch, President of GEEP Inc. (an electric and electronic waste management company); Scott Martin, Director of Sales at ThinDesk (a company providing thin computing solutions); Jean-Jerome Baudry, CEO and Founder of Baudry Cybernomics Corp. (an IT professional services firm); and Michael Glenn, VP and CTO of Zerofootprint Software Inc. (a provider of emissions management software solutions).
The panel discussion focused on the following key topics:
- The market opportunity for Green IT
- Understanding the key trends in Green IT within the Canadian perspective
- Green IT as a competitive differentiator
- The challenges for companies adopting a Green IT strategy, and
- Key customer needs and requirements from a Green IT product or service
All the panelists expect the Green IT space to grow exponentially in coming years as an increasing number of companies seek to drive cost efficiencies and meet green objectives through their ICT infrastructure. They also believe that while Canada has not done enough to move the green agenda forward so far, there will probably be significant movement on this front in 2010-2011. According to Ted Dhillon, Director of Green IT at the Branham Group, “As North America moves towards adopting legislations that put a price on carbon emissions, companies will increasingly need to look at Green IT both as a source of emissions as well as an enabler of solutions to the carbon conundrum. The question is not about whether that will happen, but when.” He further states, “The transition to a carbon constrained economy will create both risks and opportunities for vendors and consumers of ICT. The need to learn more about how Green IT can help in the fight against climate change has never been greater.”
