- Ottawa, Ontario - Branham Group Inc., a leading global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) analyst and strategic marketing consultancy, today released a report titled "Digital Health NOW Monthly - Quebec Update," which provides an update on developments in the health care sector and Digital Health in the province of Quebec over the past year.
Several interesting developments have taken place in the Quebec health care system over the course of 2011 and the early part of 2012. Healthcare in Quebec is facing a number of challenges, with funding constraints, delays in implementation of the Dossier de sante du Quebec (DSQ, Quebec's EHR), and long ER wait times being just a few of them. Pilot projects in the provincial capital region continue to remain underway and providing real-time insights into the functioning of an EHR; therefore the revised timeline of 2016 for achieving full digitization of health records appears to be achievable.
According to Wayne Gudbranson, President and CEO of the Branham Group, "Quebec is facing challenging times with its health care system now eating up 48.1 per cent of its annual budget. Business as usual is not an option as it will end up bankrupting the system." He further added, "The Quebec user health fee held the promise of reducing the burden by up to $500 million; however, its withdrawal under criticism may end up putting more pressure on the system at a time when it is already under immense stress. Quebec therefore needs to find efficiencies in the system urgently. Enhanced adoption of technology is certainly part of the solution."
The report has been produced as part of Branham's Digital Health NOW offering, which provides unbiased information and analysis of trends in Digital Health, and an in-depth analysis on the current state of Digital Health deployment in Canadian and international health care regions and organizations.
